The Rainbow and Fire

In Genesis 9 the Lord instructed Noah and his descendents (us) to be fruitful and and multiply after the Great (global) Flood. He then established a covenant with mankind and all living creatures that He would never again destroy all life on earth by a flood. He gave the rainbow as a sign to all covenanted parties. Today, many hurting, deceived people, display the rainbow to promoting a lifestyle the Lord has prohibited. Satan and his demons have deceived people into using God's own symbol to mock Him. This will be allowed for a time.

God used Simon Peter (2 Peter 3) to remind people to think wholesome thoughts, repent before Him, and to teach others to live a lifestyle respecting God's commands. He wants us to understand what will happen with people in the last days. Scoffers will follow evil desires, saying, "Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?" "Everything goes on like it always has." They deliberately forget that God spoke everything into being, and the earth out of water and by water. The world was deluged. Now the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire on the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (Paraphrased)

People today mistake the Lord's patience. He is instead holding back the end because He doesn't want anyone to perish, but to come to repentance. Many will be caught unaware, like a thief in the night, when thunderously the heavens disappear, the elements are destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it are laid bare. How should we live with this in mind? We should be holy and live godly lives, looking forward to that day so that God will speed its coming. The godly will receive a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells.

Christians, we need to be spotless, blameless, and at peace with the Lord. Don't be like the unsaved. The Lord's patience means salvation. Some corrupt people distort the deep thoughts of God's word for their own gain. God will deal with them. As for now, we have entered a time of lawlessness. I urge you to grow in the grace the Lord has extended to you. Grow in knowledge of God's Word so you will not be led away in error, and fall from your salvation.
